About Us

Laurie Bennett, Owner

I am a wearer of many hats: mother of 4, wife, business owner, Amazon.com employee, teacher, student, crafter.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Georgia, and will be finishing my Master's degree in Instructional Technology in early 2015. I am a former public school teacher and I still teach middle school math online part-time.

When it comes to sewing, I am self-taught. I learned how to sew when I was pregnant with my 3rd child so that I could make cloth diapers to save a little money. Little did I know it would lead to a full-blown business! My main sewing interests are children's clothing and gifts. I love sewing smaller items that can be finished in 1 or 2 sittings, rather than the longer projects that I never seem to be able to finish up.

I teach all of the sewing and no-sew classes out of my home studio (beginning Summer 2015), which allows me to combine my 2 loves: sewing and teaching! As for quilting, I would consider myself still a beginner, so I don't have any quilting classes to teach yet, but I know that will come with time!

My shop philosphy is that great customer service can overcome most obstacles, and that anyone can learn how to sew for enjoyment. We strive for a welcoming atmosphere in our home sewing studio, along with fast turnaround time for packing and shipping of our online orders. We hope that everyone who orders from our shop or visits us will leave with a smile on their face.

Sincerely,

Sandra Wolff
Quilting Instructor

Sandra was our super talented quilting instructor when we had our Blue Ridge shop open. We are not currently offering our quilting classes from our home studio, but once we do, we hope that she will be willing to come and teach for us again, as well as offering longarn quilting services. She is a great firend and was a wonderful addition to our local shop. We are very sad that we won't be able to see her smiling face in our local shop since we decided to close it back in December 2014. She has a wonderful story about how she got started in quilting! We will be adding more information about her very soon...

Our History

What began as a creative way to save money turned into a full-blown business! I was pregnant with my 3rd child and decided to use cloth diapers to save money. Even they were expensive, so I decided I could probably make them myself, if I only knew how to sew...I bought a machine and all the extras and scoured the internet for information on how to make cloth diapers. I was hooked, but diaper fabrics were not available in local fabric stores, and you could only find them online. I began ordering a few yards, then bolts and rolls of the stuff so I could use what I needed and sell off the extras. Soon I was getting freight truck shipments weekly with hundreds of yards of fabric at a time and it was taking up the garage, basement, spare rooms and every other place in the house not already occupied. We were striclty mail order at the time, but the dream to have my own shop kept nagging at me and finally I took the plunge after about 8 years of working the home business. Now we have our little shop that has already expanded into the next suite and by December will take up 3 shop spaces!
